Louisiana port to support LNG bunkering
US energy company Stabilis Solutions said September 21 it reached an agreement with authorities in Louisiana to use LNG as a marine fuel.
Stabilis entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Cameron Parish, Port Harbour & Terminal District to bunker LNG at the port, the fourth such arrangement for Stabilis along the US Gulf Coast.

LNG as a marine fuel is gaining traction as vessel operators look to comply with emissions mandates from the International Maritime Organisation.
"The use of LNG as a marine fuel is growing rapidly around the world as marine customers seek to meet their energy transition objectives,” Stabilis CEO Westy Ballard said. “Adding Cameron Parish Port as our fourth Gulf Coast bunkering location gives our customers and partners greater flexibility as they plan their operations."
Drawing on supplies from facilities in Louisiana and Texas, LNG bunkering services at Cameron could be available by the end of the year.
This is the second such announcement from Stabilis in as many weeks. The company last week reached a preliminary arrangement to undertake LNG bunkering at the Port of Isabel in Texas.
Stabilis under the terms of the agreement will use its existing assets to provide LNG from a liquefaction plant in Texas to support the bunkering. Services are expected to begin early next year.
Stabilis signed a similar agreement in August to offer LNG fuelling services at the Texas port of Galveston with port operator Galveston Wharves.
The company already provides LNG bunkering services at the port of Corpus Christi, also in Texas.
