Lithuania Might Have Shale Gas

Lithuania could have shale gas reserves on its territory, the Lithuania’s minister of Energy Arvydas Sekmokas said on 17 May.

‘A very preliminary evaluation shows that geological structure in the South Eastern Lithuania is very similar to the one in Poland that is stretching up to the South East Lithuania.  There were some comments about it when one of our specialists have been visiting a seminar in Poland regarding the shale gas,’ the minister said to reporters, delfi.lt reported.

However, according to the minister, in order to find out if Lithuania is rich in shale gas a examination will have to take place.

‘Of course, it is necessary to conduct a research.  But in Poland this does not happening that fast either; there are huge prospects in bin able to provide gas for us.  Even in Poland those examinations have not been conducted yet, and the quantity of shale gas is not clear yet.  Poland is more advance in this, but there are some years to come until the industrial production will began,’ the minister Sekmokas said.
