Lithuania Welcomes EU Energy Infrastructure Investments

Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaitė said on Tuesday that an integrated EU internal energy market could substantially reduce energy prices and would improve the competitiveness of the area.

According to a note released by the national Ministry of Energy, full integration could save tens of billions of euros a year in electricity costs.

"More than ever, the European Union should invest in power links and competitive local manufacturing as it is the only way to reduce dependence on external supplier. It is also vital to complete as soon as possible the EU's internal energy market and to end the energy isolation of some EU regions. We must work together to ensure lower consumer prices for energy," Grybauskaitė said.

Lithuanian politicians claimed that the list of Projects of Common Interest is an innovative instrument with great potential.

“The list of Projects of Common Interest has not had a precedent yet. Therefore we all have to give our efforts for this list to become a part of the history of the successful implementation of the energy infrastructure projects,“ minister of Energy Jaroslav Neverovič said during the conference on Tuesday.
