Lithuania Discusses LNG Cooperation with US
Lithuania continues its efforts to strengthen ties in hopes of receiving support and protection from the US.
’On 28 October, the Minister of Energy Rokas Masiulis met with Amos Hochstein, the Acting Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs leading the Bureau of Energy Resources at the U.S. Department of State,’ reads a note released on Thursday.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the parties discussed security of supply and LNG exports from the US.
“The U.S. is one of the key players in the global energy sector. The Baltic countries are now diversifying their sources of energy supply. One of the most significant diversification measures is the Klaipėda LNG terminal, which changes the rules of the game in our region where a single supplier of natural gas is in dominance. We hope that the U.S. will also play an important role in this game; LNG from the U.S. is very welcome in our region,” Lithuania’s Minister of Energy commented.
