Last Minute Deal Averts Norwegian Offshore Workers Strike
Industri Energi and Norwegian Shipowners’ Association (NSA) agreed a 1-2.33% wage increase in a last-minute deal, which averts a strike that could have had serious repercussions on Norwegian offshore activities.
‘The agreement covers 5,500 members of Industri Energi on mobile offshore units, and platform drilling on fixed installations on the Norwegian shelf’ reads a note released by Industri Energi.
Three unions - Industri Energi, SAFE and DSO - said on Monday that if talks failed delivering a wage deal, they would have immediately gone on strike. Among others, BG and Repsol would have been affected by the strike.
The talks were mediated by a state-appointed official.
According to Reuters, a total of 574 Norwegian rig workers could have stopped activities from Thursday. The conflict could have then led to a total of 4,900 workers taking part to the strike.
