Kunlun Terminals See Spike in Winter LNG

Kunlun Energy’s three LNG terminals, Dalian, Rudong and Tangshan together received 8.49bn m3 of LNG during this winter season, up 68% year on year, CNPC said March 16.

Dalian LNG receiving terminal in located in the Liaoning province, the Rudong LNG terminal in the Jiangsu province and the Tangshan LNG terminal in the Hebei province. Tangshan LNG terminal supplies Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.

CNPC said that local gas supply was tight this winter due to surge in demand as temperatures dipped way below normal.

Hong Kong-listed Kunlun is active as a marketer of gas and LNG to China's 4mn-plus natural gas vehicle fleet. As well as import terminals, it also owns and operates several small-scale units that liquefy gas from the Chinese gas system. These then supply LNG to trucks and buses as fuel. Kunlun is controlled by PetroChina, which in turn is owned by Chinese state CNPC.

China’s LNG imports have seen major spike in recent months due to strong demand from household and industries. Full year January-December 2017 LNG imports to China were a record 38.13mn mt, up over 46% on the 2016 volume.
