Kogas, Korea Telecom plan data center cooled by LNG

South Korea’s Kogas and Korea Telecom (KT) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a data centre cooled by LNG, Kogas said on November 22.

Kogas said that by using LNG to cool the data centre, KT can considerably reduce electricity consumption and carbon emissions. The two companies plan to cooperate on feasibility studies, safety, and domestic and foreign business development.

“This MoU is another step for Kogas to move toward carbon neutrality based on LNG cooling and heating along with the establishment of a cold chain cluster in Incheon New Port,” Kogas CEO Chae Hee-bong said.

Kogas is South Korea’s largest LNG importer and operates four import and regasification terminals namely Incheon, Pyeongtaek, Tongyeong and Samcheok.
