Kinetiko Flows Gas from Second South African Pilot

Kinetiko Energy has flowed gas from the second pilot well at its Amersfoort project in South Africa.

Pilot test well KA-10PTR on the Northern Licence (ER56) produced an estimated gas flow rate of 45mscf/d over the first 10 day period in addition to previously reported flows of 332Mscf/day located 8km away.

The flows support the exploration geophysical logs and coal desorption data indicating widespread gas in coal and conventional gas in adjacent sandstones, the company said.

Kinetiko said that five exploration pilot test wells have been drilled and two continue to be tested on the Northern Licence (56ER).

The Amersfoort Project is located in South Africa’s Mpumalanga region, 250 km east of Johannesburg. Mpumalanga is a highly prospective area for coal-bed methane (CBM) with well documented, gassy coal measures and with gassy sandstones overlying the coal horizons.

Kinetiko is the operator of two gas licences in the Amersfoort Project (49% interest) covering 1,601 sq km under an agreement with South African partner, Badimo Gas.
