Kawasaki Heavy to build hydrogen power plant in Japan
Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) is developing a hydrogen power generation plant for local refiner Seibu Oil Co. which will start operations in August this year, it said in its Group Vision 2030 report published on June 1.
The 34 MW plant will be co-fired by hydrogen and regasified LNG. KHI did not specify the location of the plant. Seibu operates a refinery in Yamaguchi prefecture in Japan's Chugoku region, on the southwest side of Honshu Island.

KHI said that in order to help reduce greenhouse gases in international shipping, it will work on developing marine hydrogen gas engines. It will also look at developing a hydrogen-powered aircraft, which is expected to be launched around 2035.
