Japan's Sumitomo to Build Gas Fired Power Plant in Turkmenistan
Sumitomo Corporation on Monday said it has won $300 million contract to build a 400 MW gas fired power plant in Turkmenistan.
The gas-fired simple cycle thermal power plant is expected to be complete by 2018. Main equipment such as a gas turbine and power generator would be supplied by Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd.
Turkmenistan boasts of fourth largest natural gas reserves in the world and has been encouraging projects which utilise the abundant fuel source.
The Sumitomo contract is one of the many deals signed between Japan and Turkmenistan. The two countries inked deals worth $18 billion on Friday during Prime Minister Shinzo Abe trip to Turkmenistan. Abe is on a tour of the five ex-Soviet states.
