Japan's NYK gets 2nd LNG-fuelled PCTC
Japanese shipping firm NYK Line has taken delivery of its second LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), it said on March 25 in a statement.
The vessel, Plumeria Leader, was delivered by Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding. The first vessel, Sakura Leader, was delivered to NYK in October 2020.

By using LNG fuel and improving the hull form, the ship has improved CO2 emissions per unit of transportation by about 40%, and sulfur oxide emissions by about 99% compared with conventional heavy oil-fired engines, NYK said.
NYK is positioning LNG as one of the bridge solutions until future zero-emission ships are realised. The company plans to switch all its newly built PCTCs to LNG-fuelled vessels in the next ten years and is aiming to further advance to zero-emission vessels utilising low-emission marine fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia from around the mid-2030s.
