Japan's MOL to supply FSRU to Poland's Gaz-System
Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has been selected as the preferred shipowner for the time charter of a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) intended for Poland's upcoming LNG import terminal in the Gulf of Gdansk, it said on February 2.
The project is led by Polish Gaz System, which will serve as the developer and operator of the proposed LNG terminal. This initiative represents Poland's maiden FSRU and is slated to be anchored at a mooring platform approximately 3km off the shore, situated in the area of the Port of Gdansk between the mouths of the Vistula river branches. As part of the comprehensive project, both offshore and onshore infrastructure will be constructed to support the terminal's operations.
MOL said that the commissioning of the entire project is scheduled for the years 2027-2028.
"The selection of the supplier of the LNG regasification unit is an important milestone in the implementation of the FSRU Program, which the company has been working on for many months," Andrzej Kensbok, vice president of the management board of Gaz-System, said.
“In the near future, we will focus on developing the detailed terms of the so-called time charter party. Further, we need to obtain all necessary corporate approvals from Gaz System's management bodies to sign the agreement with the shipowner,” Kensbok added.
In July 2023, Gaz System completed the process of obtaining administrative decisions for all onshore pipelines to be built under the project. In August 2023, full regasification capacity of the FSRU terminal accounting for 6.1bn m3 was booked for a period of 15 years.
In December 2023, as part of the offshore engineering work, geological surveys in GdaĆsk were completed. They will provide the results for subsoil analysis necessary to determine the location of the landfall of the offshore gas pipeline and its route, according to Gaz System.
Gaz System is also exploring the potential of the construction market before launching tenders for the construction of offshore infrastructure.
