Japan's MOL signs LNGC charter deal

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a multi-year contract to charter a newbuild LNG carrier (LNGC) to an unnamed energy company, it said on October 28.

The vessel to be built by South Korean shipyard DSME is fitted with the ME-GA engine and is sized at 174,000 m3. ME-GA vessels are equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation system that reduces methane slip while improving overall fuel consumption, MOL said.

Furthermore, the vessel is equipped with additional functions, an air lubrication system and a shaft generator, which together reduce CO2 emissions from the vessel during operation. The vessel will be delivered in 2026.
