Japanese JV Starts Gas Distribution in Thailand

A Japanese joint venture of Tokyo Gas and Mitsui, MITG Thailand, commenced December 1 a natural gas distribution business in Thailand, Tokyo Gas said December 7.

Gulf WHA MT Natural Gas Distribution Company (GWHAMT), a holding company of natural gas distribution companies for industrial estates in Thailand, began delivering natural gas to industrial users in WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 2. This marks Thailand’s very first fully private natural gas distribution business targeting industrial users, Tokyo Gas said. The Industrial estate is located in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), a special economic zone specified by the Thai government for the purpose of promoting investment.

This is the fourth case in which Tokyo Gas has invested in a local gas distribution company overseas, following its investments in Gas Malaysia in Malaysia in 1992, PetroVietnam Low Pressure Gas Distribution Joint Stock Company in July 2017, and Panji Raya Alamindo in Indonesia in October 2017.

GWHAMT is a holding company owned by Gulf Energy Development Public Company (35%), WHA Utilities and Power Public Company (35%), and MITG (30%).
