Japan Imported Record 7.73 mt of LNG in February

Japan’s LNG imports in February hit another record with the country importing 7.73 mn tons of fuel, up 2.9 percent on year, Ministry of Finance data showed.

The value of LNG imports during the month was 633.7bn yen ($5.3bn), down 0.7% year on year.

Japan imported record LNG in 2014 as demand for the fuel continued to see strong rise due to shut down of its nuclear stations since the Fukushima disaster in 2011.

Last year, the country imported 88.51 million tons of LNG, up 1.2 percent on year, data from Ministry of Finance showed. Japanese LNG imports have hit record for the fifth year in a row. In 2013, import of LNG was 87.49 million tons.

Japan, the biggest LNG importer in the world, paid a record 7.85 trillion yen ($66.67 billion) last year for LNG, up 11.2 per cent from a year earlier.
