Iran's Gas Exports to Turkey Stands at 5 bcm Since Late March
Iran has exported 4.96 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas to Turkey during the first eight months of Iranian calendar year that began on March 21.
An official from National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said Iran has exported 30 mcm/d of natural gas to Turkey, 1.5 mcm/d to Nakhchivan and 1.5 mcm/d to Armenia during the eight months, state owned Shana News reported Monday.
Iran supplies 10 bcm of gas to Turkey annually which is nearly 30 percent of the country's gas needs. Although Iran can export 40mcm/d of gas to its neighbor, the volume is capped at 30mcm/d as per the current deal.
On Sunday Director of International Affairs of NIGC Azizollah Ramezani said supplies to Turkey can be increased only after a new gas deal is signed between the two parties. The current deal was inked in 2001.
"Iran cannot inject more than what has been agreed upon in the deal to Turkey," Shana quoted Ramezani as saying.
