Breaking News: Iran Restores Gas Export to Turkey
The volume of Iranian gas export to Turkey reached 30 million cubic meters per day at 16:00 local time on Monday, December 7, after a technical problem occurred at the Turkish side was removed.
Manouchehr Taheri, National Iranian Gas Company Dispatching Director, said gas export to Turkey decreased due to a problem in one of the turbo compressors at the gas supply facilities in Turkey, Shana news agency reported on December 9.
The company’s workforce is trying to increase pressure and stability along the gas pipeline, he said.
Meanwhile, Turkish newspaper Habertürk reported on December 9 that Iran has halved the volume of natural gas flows to Turkey, citing an increase in domestic consumption due to severe winter weather.
It said the daily gas flow of some 28-30 million cubic meters had fallen to around 14-15 million cubic meters as a part of the move.
Turkish energy officials were not immediately available to comment.
Turkish pipeline company BOTAŞ has cut gas usage to 50 percent of capacity at some power stations in a precautionary measure to boost stocks ahead of an expected winter rise in demand, an energy official told Reuters December 9. He said gas flows from Iran to Turkey fell temporarily on December 8 for technical reasons and there is currently no problem in gas flows to Turkey.
