Iran Prepares for Exploration of Unconventional Energy

Iran has formulated drawn initial plans for exploration of unconventional oil and gas deposits in near future.

Speaking to Fars News Agency on Sunday, National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Director for Exploration, Hormoz Qalavand said that initial planning for exploration of shale oil and shale gas has been done and contract will be inked next (Iranian) month (May 21 - June 20).

He added that Iran plans to start its first shale oil and gas exploration project in the country's Western regions of Zagros.

Qalavand further underlined that the project is now in initial and exploration phase, adding that comprehensive planning is needed for next phases, including seismography and drilling.
