Iran, Norway Working on FLNG Plan
Iran is working on a plan with a Norwegian firm to build a FLNG unit in Persian Gulf, Press TV reported Thursday.
Ali Kardor, the vice president for finance and investment affairs of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), said the facility will be used to support Iran’s exports of LNG to Europe and Asia.
Kardor did not name the company but an Iranian industry source told Natural Gas Europe, that Norway’s Golar LNG, which owns one of the largest FLNG fleets in the world, is negotiating both dispatching its own FLNG vessels to Iran and building new ones for the country.
Iran was previously working on three LNG projects – Iran LNG, Pars LNG and Persian LNG. These projects were abandoned due to sanctions.
Tehran is also working on using Oman LNG’s spare capacity to export LNG to Europe and Asia. Iran plans to convert part of gas that it would export to Oman via pipeline into LNG using Oman LNG’s facilities. The 400-kilometer pipeline, stretching from Iran to Oman is defined in onshore and offshore sections. Land part of the gas pipeline extends for 200 kilometers from Rudan to Mobarak Mount in southern Hormozgan province. The seabed section between Iran and Sohar Port in Oman will stretch for another 200 kilometers.
