Iran, Iraq Ink Gas Pipeline Deal

Iran and Iraq have signed an agreement for the construction of a pipeline that will carry natural gas from Iran to feed power plants in the southern Iraqi province of Basra, Press TV reported.

The pipeline project which is expected to be complete by next summer has been awarded to an Iranian company, Press TV quoted Basra Governor Majeed al-Nasrawi as saying.

In July this year, the two neighbour signed a gas supply deal under which Iran will supply 25 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas to Sadr, Baghdad and al-Mansouryah power plants through pipeline.

The 270 kilometre pipeline will start from Assaluyeh, near the offshore South Pars gas field in southern Iran, and will continue into Iraq.
