Iran Could Begin Exporting Gas to Iraq in June

Iran is expected to begin exporting gas exports to Iraq in June, Azizollah Ramezani director for international affairs of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said Saturday.

Process of transmission of gas has been repeatedly delayed due to security situation in Iraq.

Ramezani told state owned media agency Shana that the project’s pipelines have been laid completely and its metering station is ready for operation.

“Iran is currently waiting for Iraq to establish the required infrastructures in its territory,” he said.

Earlier, Alireza Kameli, the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company (NIGEC), said that Iran faces no problem for exporting its gas to Iraq, and that gas transfer will begin as soon as the Iraqi side manages to guarantee the security of the pipeline in its territory.

As per the contract signed between the two countries, Iran is to export 4 million cubic meters (mcm) of gas to Iraq per day and later raise the figure to 35 mcm per day.
