Iran, Belgium Plan FLNG Terminal at Kharg
Iran and Belgium are planning to have a FLNG vessel at Iran’s Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.
"The Belgian side can bring FLNG vessels to Kharg so that Iran can produce LNG there for the first time provided both sides show flexibility and the technical and economic negotiations bear fruit in not a long period," Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said Monday after meeting with visiting Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter de Crem, reported state owned Shana News.
With sanctions of Iran expected to be lifted soon, Tehran is looking to emerge as a top natural gas exporter. The gas rich nation has signed multiple agreements with foreign shipbuilders to construct LNG tankers as the country pushes to join the club of LNG exporters.
The government officials have on various occasions stated that lot of large foreign energy companies have shown interest in developing LNG projects in the country. Iran plans to build a capacity for exports of 40 million tons a year of LNG.
