N Ireland Storage Design Work Begins
UK-listed gas storage developer InfraStrata said April 23 it has contracted Costain to carry out the surface element of the Front End Engineering Design (Feed) for its Islandmagee gas storage project.
InfraStrata added: "Work by Costain is to start imminently and enables InfraStrata to carry out the surface element of the Feed programme this year and within the rules and timescales of the EU funding grant. A contractor for the subsurface elements of the FEED programme has been identified and the company plans to conclude this contract shortly."
InfraStrata CEO Adrian Pocock said that UK construction firm Costain had been "immensely supportive in helping us to reach this significant milestone in the development of the salt cavern gas storage facility in Islandmagee, Northern Ireland."
The UK's scheduled March 29 2019 exit from the European Union means that EU co-funding of Islandmagee construction work remains in doubt. Typically such funding might normally contribute 50% of project cost. Islandmagee’s envisaged 0.5bn m3 working gas capacity is expected to cost some £300mn ($420mn) to develop (the map below, courtesy of InfraStrata shows its planned location).
Cash-strapped InfraStrata said April 4 it has raised enough money to complete Feed on its gas storage project.
