Indian, Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Undersea Gas Pipeline

Foreign ministers of Iran and India met in Islamabad on Wednesday to discuss energy related issues especially the proposed undersea gas pipeline, Shana News reported.

The meeting between Mohammad-Javad Zarif and Sushma Swaraj took place on the sidelines of the Heart of Asia conference.

“With the closing of (nuclear) PMD case, there is no longer any impediment on the way of increasing relations between Iran and India,” Zarif said.

On Monday, National Iranian Gas Export Co (NIGEC) Managing Director Alireza Kameli said at the World Energy Policy Summit in New Delhi that negotiations regarding the Iran-India undersea gas pipeline are under serious consideration.

Indian company South Asia Gas Enterprise Pvt. Ltd. (SAGE India) has proposed to build the undersea pipeline. The SAGE pipeline would originate at Chabahar on the southern coast of Iran and Ras Al-Jafan on the Oman coast, and after traversing deep in the Arabian Sea, would bring gas to Porbandar in south Gujarat.
