India Has Abundant Shale Gas

India’s geology hints at abundant presence of shale gas, but there were many challenges ahead, Blake Clayton, fellow for Energy and National Security Council on Foreign Relations, New York said at a conference at the India city of Hyderabad, the New Indian Express reported.

 “Technology is ready and oil and natural gas companies are willing to invest in India, but there are other factors to deal with even if India okays it,” he said.

Clayton pointed that exploring India’s reserve could be challenging as not much is known about the geology here, the daily reported. “But the major challenge is that of infrastructure facilities in the form of pipeline infrastructure, rail and roads network,” he said.

He added that the speed at which India obtains the technology would depend on policy decisions from Delhi.
