Portfolio.hu: Could This Be the "Gift" Putin Is to Give Hungary?
Moscow may give a discount on the price of natural gas to Hungary, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported on Friday, citing analysts.
The economic and financial paper reminded that Hungary, which consumes six billion cubic metres of gas annually, was the first state to start gas price negotiations with Russia after Moscow abandoned the South Stream pipeline project, as the country’s long-term gas suppy deal with Russia expires this year.
It also cited Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán saying in an interview on Wednesday that he intends to broker a flexible gas supply deal, one that may be extended in time, with Russian President Vladimir Putin when he pays an official visit to Budapest on 17 February.
