Politics.hu: Gov’t confirms support for South Stream pipeline after concerns from EU
Hungary’s government will do everything in its power to remove obstacles in the way of implementing the South Stream gas pipeline and to see the formulation of a solution that is acceptable to all parties, the National Development Ministry said on Monday, responding to a query by MTI.
The project enjoys continued political support because it contributes to the security of the energy supply for Hungary and the region by ensuring an alternative route for gas deliveries, the ministry said.
The ministry responded to a query concerning a statement last Thursday by a spokesperson for Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger that the European Commission had warned six EU member states — Bulgaria, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria — involved in the South Stream pipeline in August that their bilateral intergovernmental agreements with Russia on the project were not in harmony with EU law.
