GTT to design tanks for 12 LNG-fuelled containerships
French LNG engineering group GTT has been hired to design cryogenic fuel tanks for 12 LNG-fuelled containerships due to be built for shipping group CMA CGM, the company said on May 17.
The LNG tanks will be fitted with GTT's Mark III membrane containment technology and will be capable of storing 14,000 m3 of LNG. The 12 vessels are under construction in China's Hudong-Zhonghua and Jiangnan shipyards and are scheduled to be delivered between the last quarter of 2023 and the third quarter of 2024.

CMA CGM is looking to have a fleet of 44 LNG-fuelled containerships in operation by 2024, as part of efforts to tackle its emissions. The world's biggest LNG-fuelled containership, the 23,000-teu CMA CGM Jacques Saade, joined its fleet in September last year.
The shipowner cut its CO2 emissions by 4% in 2020, following a 6% reduction in the previous year. It announced last month it would start offering its customers biomethane-fuelled transport to help them reduce their carbon footprint.
