Gorgon LNG to Restart Within Weeks

Chevron operated Gorgon LNG project will restart production in next few weeks.

Joe Geagea, Chevron's executive vice president technology, projects and services divisions, told investors on Friday that despite the shutdown company's view on the ramp-up schedules for Gorgon's three processing lines had not changed.

"We expect to restart Train 1 in the next few weeks and resume LNG production within the 30 to 60-day estimate we provided previously," Geagea said.

On April 6, 2016, Chevron said production has been temporarily halted due to mechanical issues with the propane refrigerant circuit on Train 1 at the plant site.

First LNG production started on March 7 with peak production touching nearly 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The first LNG cargo departed Barrow Island on March 21 and was delivered to Chubu Electric Power in Japan.

Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.3 percent), ExxonMobil (25 percent), Shell (25 percent), Osaka Gas (1.25 percent), Tokyo Gas (1 percent) and Chubu Electric Power (0.417 percent).
