ABC: GOGC: the EU will not be able to refuse Russian gas until 2025
The Georgian Oil and Gas Company (GOGC) cannot see any possibilities for Europe to refuse Russian gas in the medium term in spite of recent geopolitical events.
Liana Jervalidze, Senior Advisor of GOGC President, stated today in Baku at the international conference on “the Caspian shelf; the way to quick and safe production” that Europe will not be able to make such step until at least 2020-2025.
“In my opinion, the European market cannot fully refuse Russian gas at least until such time when alternative suppliers such as Iran, Turkmenistan, as well as American shale gas, gas from eastern Mediterranean and Azerbaijani Shah-Deniz field are examined and approved. Turkey, which promptly responds to geopolitical events, has also provided its option for supplies through its territory”, - Jervalidze said.
In her words, there’s a serious potential for supply of Azerbaijani gas to the European markets but this process requires some problems to be solved.
