Tullow in talks to unlock Ghana gas potential

Tullow Oil is looking to expand the Jubilee and TEN oilfields offshore Ghana to extract potential associated and non-associated gas reserves, the company said July 13, in an operational update.

The London-listed independent believes the cluster may hold as much as 2 trillion ft3 of associated and non-associated gas, which could be used to meet surging domestic demand owed to continued economic development, according to Tullow's CEO Rahul Dhir.

Dhir stated Tullow Oil is currently preparing an "integrated plan" for rapid development of these resources.

The Jubilee and TEN oilfields sit around 45 km - 60km from Ghana's shoreline within reaching distance of the Cote d'Ivoire's maritime border. Launched in 2007 and 2016 respectively, Jubilee produced 29,500 barrels of oil/day in 2020, while TEN yielded 74,900 b/d in the same year.

"This indigenous resource has the potential to provide energy security for Ghana, while reducing dependence on the highly competitive global LNG market," Dhir said.
