Getech to provide analytics for UK's first CO2 storage round

London-listed firm Getech announced on July 12 it had been contracted to deploy its proprietary geospatial software and subsurface expertise for the UK's first carbon storage licensing round.

Getech will work with the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), noting it had used its exploration analyst software product on the regulator's date to create strategic maps that can be used to define optimal areas for CO2 storage.

NSTA kicked off the UK's maiden CO2 storage licensing round in mid-June, inviting offers for 13 offshore blocks by September. The country's ambition is to store up to 30mn metric tons of CO2/year by the end of this decade.
