Dow Jones: Germany Needs To Improve Conditions For Gas Power Plants -Wingas
The German government needs to improve investment conditions for gas-fired power plants to ensure continued security of energy supply, the country's second-largest importer of natural gas, Wingas GmbH, said Friday.
"We need more gas-fired power plants, but we also need a clear political commitment on how to secure future baseload power demand under economic conditions," said Gerhard Koenig, managing director of Wingas (a 50-50 joint venture between BASF SE's oil and gas unit Wintershall AG, and Russia's Gazprom OAO in a written statement.
The comments come ahead of a meeting next Wednesday between Chancellor Angela Merkel and key energy industry officials to discuss power generation issues. MORE
