"GECF Summit to Improve GECF Position in Global Energy Scene"
The summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is an apt occasion to improve the position of the forum in the global energy scene, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said.
Addressing the 17th ordinary ministerial meeting of GECF, which was held on November 21 in Tehran, Zanganeh said: “This summit is yet another sign that GECF member countries try to expand their cooperation on the issues of collective interests. No doubt, the summit is an apt occasion to improve the position of the forum in the global energy scene.”
“I am confident that with respect to the growing importance of natural gas in the world energy mix, the decisions made at the summit would impact the global gas market positively”, the minister added.
Sustainable development and providing the opportunity for the world to access affordable, reliable, and modern energy tops the agenda of the United Nations and other international fora in coming years, he stressed.
“In this regard, being the cleanest fossil fuel with low carbon content has made natural gas the chosen energy source which should meet world energy requirements in the 21st century and has the potential to replace coal in many uses.”
