Gazprom progresses plan for new line to China

Russian Gazprom approved April 12 the results of the feasibility analysis for the Soyuz Vostok [Union East] pipeline, its second major export route for gas to China. It will "become an extension of Russia's Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline in Mongolian territory," Gazprom said that day.

The analysis established the basic technical and technological parameters of the project. These include the optimal route for the gas pipeline in Mongolian territory; the pipeline's length and diameter; the working pressure; and the number of compressor stations.

Gazprom said it would, with the government of Mongolia, come up with "a detailed breakdown of investment and operating costs by the end of the year." Unlike the 38bn m³/yr Power of Siberia, which is supplied by gas from eastern Siberia, this planned line is to carry gas from western Siberia.
