Gazprom Picks New Power of Siberia Contractor: Press

Russia's Gazprom has selected Stroytransneftegaz as a contractor to build the final section of Power of Siberia pipeline to China, sources told Russia's RBC news agency on June 23.

The 800-km section in question connects the Kovyktinskoye field in the Irkutsk region with the Chayandinskoye field in the Yakutia area, with RBC estimating that it will cost rubles 160bn ($2.3bn) to build. Chayandinskoye already flows gas to the Chinese border via a 2,200-km section of Power of Siberia completed last year. Kovyktinskoye is due to start pumping gas by the end of 2022.

Stroytransneftegaz laid 556 km of Power of Siberia's first section and was awarded a contract to build its second in May, RBC said. The company is part-owned by Russian businessman Gennady Timchenko, a shareholder in gas firm Novatek.
