Gazprom Neft, Adnoc Team up for Sour Gas Projects

Russia’s Gazprom Neft and UAE-based Adnoc have signed a framework deal to co-operate at upstream and downstream projects, in artificial intelligence and other areas of innovative technology.

A focus of collaboration will be sour gas exploration and production, according to a Gazprom Neft statement on October 16. They will also look at general opportunities in the upstream sector, including at concessions within the UAE.

UAE has a number of large fields containing sour gas – gas with a high sulphur content. They include the Shah gas field, where Adnoc plans to ramp up production from 1.3bn to 1.5bn ft3/day, and the Ghasha field, expected to flow more than 1.5bn ft3/day by 2025. Gazprom Neft’s domestic rival Lukoil this week secured a 5% position at Ghasha, marking its foray into the UAE. The deals come as Russian president Vladimir Putin this week tours the Middle East.
