Gazprom Considering Bid for Greek DEPA
Gazprom has officially confirmed that it is considering a bid for Greece's DEPA, following a meeting between the CEOs of Gazprom and Prometheus Gas on Friday.
"Alexey Miller and Dimitrios Copelouzos discussed the possibilities for Gazprom Group to take part in Greek DEPA Group privatization through a bidding procedure," a statement from the company said.
Gazprom's Alexey Miller and Prometheus's Dimitrios Copelouzos met at Gazprom's headquarters in Russia to discuss Gazprom's prospects for Russian-Greek cooperation.
Prometheus is a joint venture between Gazprom Export and Copelouzos Bros., formed in 1991 to focus on furthering cooperation and energy matters in Greece.
In particular, the two discussed the potential sale of DEPA, an asset in which the Greek government has a 65 per cent share; Hellenic Petroleum holds the other 35 per cent stake. Last month, the Greek government announced that it was putting its stakes on the block, with bids invited from other companies.
The bidding for DEPA will close this week on the 22nd of March.
