Gazprom & Partner Complete 1st Well at Siberian Field

Russia's Gazprom and its private partner Rusgazdobycha have completed their first well at the Semakovskoye field in Western Siberia, they said on September 18.

Semakovskoye is the largest of three deposits that the partners have agreed to develop jointly in the Yamalo-Nenets region. It holds an estimated 320bn m3 of recoverable gas.

The well reached a length of 2,637 metres and achieved industrial gas flow, the companies said. Studies will take place to assess long-term flow rates and the field's production capacity.

The first phase of Semakovskoye's development will involve sinking 19 wells with horizontal sections by 2023. Production is slated to start in 2022. Gazprom and Rusgazdobycha took a final investment decision on Semakovskoye in June, but are yet to approve development of the nearby Parusovoye and North-Parusovoye fields, which hold a combined 100bn m3 of gas.

Gazprom and Rusgazdobycha are also working together to develop a gas processing and LNG complex on the Baltic Sea, due to start up in 2023. That complex will annually produce 18bn m3 of treated gas for pipeline export, 13mn metric tons of LNG , 3.6mn mt of ethane and 2.2mn mt of liquid petroleum gas.

The ethane will be supplied to an adjacent petrochemicals plant that Rusgazdobycha is building on its own. The company said on September 15 that it had obtained technologies from France's Axens to produce high-purity 1-butane and high-purity 1-hexene at the plant.
