Gasunie pens memo on German LNG terminal
Dutch gas grid operator Gasunie and German energy group RWE announced on March 4 they had signed a memorandum with German state-owned investment group KfW on building an LNG import terminal in Brunsbuttel in north Germany.
The announcement comes after Germany's government in late February halted the certification process for Russia's Nord Stream 2 pipeline, in light of Moscow's actions in Ukraine. It plans to build two LNG import terminals in the project's stead – one in Brunsbuttel and one in Wilhelmshaven.

Construction is due to start later this year on the facility, which will have a regasification capacity of 8bn m3 annually. It will be operated by Gasunie, although KfW will inject funds into the project on behalf of the German government, giving it a 50% equity share. RWE is expected to book the majority of its import capacity.
In the future, the terminal could be repurposed to import green hydrogen, the companies said, in line with Germany's energy transition strategy.
