Gasum To Bunker at Sweden's Gothenburg Port

Finnish gas group Gasum has reached a deal to use Swedish counterpart Swedegas’ LNG infrastructure at the port of Gothenburg in Sweden for LNG bunkering services, it reported on November 18.

Gasum on October 24 bunkered its first ship at Gothenburg, the Tern Ocean oil and chemical tanker, it said.

“For years we have bunkered LNG at the quayside from diversified delivery points in the Nordics,” Gasum sales director Jacob Granqvist explained. “The benefit of the Swedegas set-up is that our customers can solve two issues at the same time, both getting fuel and handle cargo.”

Gasum is to seeking to bolster its bunkering operations, exploiting fast-growing demand for cleaner marine fuel driven in part by new IMO restrictions on emissions. Swedegas’ facilities at Gothenburg can store and transport biogas in addition to LNG.

Gasum is set to expand its LNG footprint further, after agreeing this month to acquire the LNG and marine bunkering business of Germany’s Linde in Norway and Sweden.
