Gail Eyeing Foray into Qatar
GAIL India Ltd, teaming up with its joint venture partner Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) has been planning to foray into Qatar to replicate its city gas distribution (CGD) project in the Arab country.
"We've sought details of the locations as also price details of gas that will be made available by Qatar for the project," a senior Gail official told newsmen in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The CGD envisages supply of both piped natural gas (PNG) -- gas reaching households - and compressed natural gas (CNG) being sold at fuel depots.
"Gail plans to develop City Gas markets worldwide in collaboration with global oil and gas majors," the official said. Qatar presently supplies huge quantities of gas to India every year.
The state-run gas distributor, which has three JV companies running in Egypt and one in Beijing, has established its presence in the CNG and City Gas arenas in Egypt through equity participation in Fayum Gas, Shell CNG and Natgas and acquired a stake in China Gas Holding to pursue CNG opportunities in mainland China.
