FSRU ready to deliver LNG to Argentina
US-based LNG company Excelerate Energy said June 2 that it was preparing to deliver LNG to the Argentine market using a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
Excelerate said the Exemplar FSRU was now deployed at the Argentine port city of Bahia Blanca. Exemplar has a storage capacity of 5.3mn ft3 and is set up to deliver LNG for the 2021 winter season in the southern hemisphere.
Excelerate said that LNG was helping to decarbonise the Argentine economy. Over the four years ending in 2020, the company said Argentina cut its CO2 emissions by 9.5mn tons through the use of LNG.
The International Monetary Fund expects the Argentine economy will expand by 5.8% this year, though lingering strains from the pandemic could limit growth and suppress demand.
Argentina envisions export potential for its own reserves by converting gas from the Vaca Muerta shale into LNG for the international market.
