Frontera strikes oil, gas in Ecuador
Frontera Energy has discovered oil and gas at the Jandaya-1 exploration well at the Perico block in Ecuador, the Texan producer said on January 19.
Spudded on December 7, 2021, Jandaya-1 was drilled to test an exploration prospect in the block's northeast section to a depth of 3,345 m. A hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir with a vertical depth of nearly 24 m was encountered in three formations.

A test-flow rate of 750 barrels/day of oil and 1,000 ft3/d of gas was achieved over a 24-hour period at the Hollin formation, Frontera said.
Frontera will seek permits needed for a long-term test for at least six months or longer, while also preparing an environmental impact assessment necessary to secure a production licence. The company will continue with appraisal work to confirm the discovery's size and production potential. It also plans to spud the Tui-1 exploration well at Perico in February, 6 km from Jandaya-1.
Additional prospects at Perico have been identified, Frontera said, and they are being matured for drilling. Frontera operates the block with a 50% interest, while the remaining 50% stake is held by Geopark.
