Frontera Announces Encouraging Results in Mtsare Khevi Field, Georgia

Frontera Resources has reported encouraging results for gas in the Mtsare Khevi Field in Georgia and announced an update to its operations in the area, on the Shallow Fields Production Unit, Block 12.

In a statement released today, the company said that testing on one 14 metre section of the field, Zone I, has revealed that there may be greater amounts of gas deliverable than had previously been assessed.

"Based on results obtained from analysis of pressure drawdown/buildup testing of the well that was conducted subsequently to the Company’s announcement of 11 October 2011, reservoir modeling simulations of this new down-hole pressure data indicate that Zone I can potentially flow gas at a rate of approx. 57,000 cubic metres per day (approximately 2 million cubic feet per day), more than twice the original estimate that was based on observed flowing pressures," the statement says.

A second zone, Zone II, where Frontera is now focusing its operations, has also shown encouraging reults, with absolute open flow (AOF) reported to be at around 15,000 cubic metres a day. Previous testing on the 9.5 metre Zone II found a daily flow output of about 2,200 cubic metres on a 6mm choke, and 4,900 cubic metres on a 9mm choke.

The company says it will be focusing its operations on Zone II in the coming week, before progressing onto Zone III to determine gas deliverability from that well.

"Ongoing testing operations at the #32 well continue to confirm the importance of our most recent achievement at the Mtsare Khevi field within our greater portfolio of assets," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve C. Nicandros said. "Based on analysis of the results observed to date, we are excited by what this well continues to reveal about the ultimate gas potential of the field and the overall surrounding area."

Previous testing from Frontera on the #32 well has indicated that there may be up to five times as much gas in the Mtsare Khevi field as previously estimated. The company is currently reviewing construction plans to transport the gas to the national gas distribution pipeline grid 10 kilometres away.
