Fluxys Takes FID on Belgian LNG Boost
Belgian infrastructure operator Fluxys has taken the final investment decision to expand the regasification capacity at its Zeebrugge terminal, it said February 15. The decision comes a week after Qatar decided to expand its LNG production with four trains each of 8mn metric tons (mt)/year.
Fluxys did not name any bidders but said that following the conclusion of its open season, "the full 6mn mt/year capacity on offer has been subscribed." Qatar already holds regasification capacity at Zeebrugge, as well as in the UK. Last autumn it extended its capacity deal at Isle of Grain, southeast England, which is Europe's largest. The 25-year extension will run from 2025.
The additional regasification capacity will be provided in two tranches: from early 2024, Fluxys will add 4.7mn mt/year and from early 2026, the full 6mn mt/yr will be available, it said.
