Fluor Wins Work at Kazakh Gas Field

US firm Fluor has secured a three-year engineering services contract at Karachaganak, Kazakhstan’s largest gas and condensate field.

The contract was awarded to Fluor’s joint venture with Kaznipimunaigas, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s state oil company KazMunaiGas (KMG), Fluor said on October 31. It includes two potential one-year extensions.

Karachaganak is operated by the KPO consortium consisting of Shell, Italy’s Eni, Chevron, Russia’s Lukoil and KMG. The group has approved new investments at the project over the past year, including an expansion in infrastructure and the addition of a fourth injection compressor unit, to maintain the field’s output over a longer period.

The scope of Fluor’s work includes feasibility studies, front-end engineering design and other engineering services.

“This important award will allow Fluor to build a long-term relationship with KPO and to expand our capabilities and presence in Kazakhstan,” said Fluor’s president for energy and chemicals, Mark Fields.
