First LNG Cargo Sails From Corpus Christi Terminal
Cheniere Energy said December 11 the first commissioning cargo of LNG has departed from the Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project (CCLP) in Texas aboard the tanker Maria Energy (pictured above, photo courtesy Cheniere Energy).
The departure of the commissioning volume, produced in mid-November, marks the first export of LNG from Texas and the first from a greenfield liquefaction facility in the Lower 48 states. Cheniere did not reveal the destination of the cargo.

“Exporting the first commissioning cargo of LNG from Texas demonstrates Cheniere’s ability to deliver projects safely and ahead of schedule,” Cheniere CEO Jack Fusco said.
CCLP consists of three large-scale liquefaction trains, each with a design capacity of 4.5mn metric tons/year (mt/yr) of LNG. Train 1, which produced the commissioning cargo, is expected to reach substantial completion in 1Q 2019, with Train 2 to follow in 2H 2019 and Train 3 in 2H 2021. A third stage, consisting of seven mid-scale trains, is under development, which would take the nominal capacity of CCLP to about 23mn mt/yr of LNG.
These timetables might be conservative though: the official launch ceremony of the third, 5.5mn mt/yr train at the Russian Yamal LNG export terminal, held December 11, took place a year earlier than it was expected; and the second train was six months early.
