Finnish Utility Launches 2021 Gas Grant Contest
Finnish state utility Gasum launched January 21 the application process for the 2021 grant to fund research into the Nordic gas ecosystem that could make it more sustainable.
Gasum, which invests in the development of new technologies, concepts and energy systems and is a keen promoter of LNG as a fuel for shipping and trucks, said the deadline was February 10.

Among the areas it is looking to develop are the gas-related circular economy and bioeconomy; gas transport and logistics; distributed energy solutions promoting gas use; and gas-based energy storage technologies such as power-to-gas.
Grants are given out for research conducted in Finland, including possible periods of working abroad on the project. Funding may also be applied for in several consecutive years. This, however, requires proof of progress made in the work. Progress must be indicated in the application as well as in the reference letter provided by the advisor or supervisor of the work. Last year's grants totalled €75,000 ($91,000). The awards have been running since 2005, when cutting carbon emissions was further down the European agenda.
