Exxon Expects Gas from Oz Bass Strait Project in 2021

Esso Australia, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia, has reached total depth at the first of its two West Barracouta gas wells in the Bass Strait, which will bring new gas supplies to the Australian domestic market next year, ExxonMobil Australia said March 6.

The development, located in the VIC/L1 block offshore Victoria, will be tied back to the existing Barracouta infrastructure offshore in the Bass Strait, it said.

“With a total depth of 1.3-km reached on the first well and the second well almost complete, the company will have West Barracouta gas flowing to the Australian domestic gas market by early 2021,” the company said.

Esso Australia operates the Gippsland Basin project through a 50-50 joint venture with BHP Billiton Petroleum.
